Review of Breathless (2009) by Michael C — 30 Dec 2008
The film is pretty good on its own merits, but its technique definitely adds to it. This film, released in 1960, proves that the French New Wave was willing to touch on issues that the U.S. would not approach until the New Hollywood movement kicks in, and most prominent in the film is the use of jump cut editing.
That technique in particular was embraced by Martin Scorsese, who would use the technique to amazing effect in "Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore".
