Ive never been much of a French New Wave fan, and this holds true for Breathless. Comparisons to Citizen Kane in terms of blowing the lid off technique may prove true, but it doesnt make it an enjoyable film.
Its paced poorly to a fault. The overlong bedroom scene nearly put me to sleep. Im not a huge fan of Kane, and I like that one a whole lot better. At least Citizen Kane is a bit easier to appreciate. I hate calling a film pretentious because the word is over used, but if ever there was a time to use it, its now.
Breathless has not aged well, and its novelty is not so novel anymore.
