Review of Breathless (2009) by Callum R — 18 Nov 2009
Breathless: Godard's debut is simply staggering and with the help of Traffaut he manages to create a timeless, surprisingly adult film with raw dialogue, quirky characters, stylish editing and with such vigorous French flair. Gorgeous. 9.3/10.
At university at present I am taking a module in Film History. I will be reviewing all of these in a short fashion as in the review above. I will also be doing a French New Wave season focusing primarily on Godard.
1. The Great Train Robbery (early narrative).
2. The Cabinet Of Dr Caligari (German expressionism).
3. The Battleship Potemkin (Soviet Montage).
4. Singing In The Rain (Hollywood studio system).
5. The Bicycle Thief (Italian neo-realism).
6. The Wild Strawberries (Europeon arthouse).
7. Breathless (French new-wave).
8. TBA.
