Review of Breathless (2009) by Andrew B — 01 Jun 2010
So, am I to understand that taking a story about angsty French youth, slapping portions of a crime drama on top of it and polishing it off with intentionally bad editing makes this a classic?
It's a mess of a film that is heralded as the start (and one of the greatest) of the French New-Wave films. But ultimately just looks amateurish and sloppy. It's regarded as a classic because it broke all of the cinematic rules. Well, they are considered rules for a reason. Take that Godard.
And as a side note, I HATE jump cuts intentional or not.
