Review of Breathless (2009) by Matt M — 14 Nov 2010
After re-reviewing Breathless, I have upgraded my score and now understand the importance of this film. Jean-Luc Godard allowed his cinematographer Raoul Coutard to do hand-held.Jean-Luc Godard of course innovative techniques such as character aside and jump cuts that started the trend of modern cinema.
Still find the jump cuts a bit annoying and not as effective as in films like "The Wrestler". I have only seen one other film "Weekend", which I saw before Breathless and tainted my view on Godard.
Experimental to film me can either be innovative or a a bit off. I hope to see other Godard films like "Bande à part" which looks very interesting and Alphaville.
