Review of Breathless (2009) by Maxwell S — 25 Sep 2012
Maybe not my favorite film by Godard, but certainly his most accomplished. This film is very life-affirming in the way that the characters live their lives doing only what makes them happy, though the films dialogue can be deep and bleak.
About an hour into the film, the troubles they've caused to others' lives catches up to them. As things become more tense and cluttered, Godard never stops messing around, up until the very last second.
In addition to it's crazy and lovable attitude, it is one of the most visually stunning black and white films ever made. "Breathless" is a film that will be remembered as one of France's most important film, but it will always have a special place in almost every viewer/cinephile's heart.
