Review of Breathless (2009) by Blake H — 12 Jan 2013
A crook must leave town after killing a cop, but finds it hard to do so without his American belle. Inspired by the Monogram thrillers and crime movies, this is perhaps Godard's most celebrated film, and among his very best.
Belmondo here is wonderful in his interpretation of the Humphrey Bogart like character and along with Jean Seberg they give a fresh new portrayal of cinema's crook and femme fatale figures. The filmmaking style is raw and gritty, taking the cameras right through the street of Paris to give the film a unique feel that is trademark of the best works of the French New Wave movement, whose influence around the world this film helped spreading.
