Review of Breathless (2009) by Four Star F — 17 Feb 2013
Ok its not only the awesome new editing techniques, or jean seberg's brilliant acting(one of the best ull see in films) or even the wonderfully and perfectly written dialogues & the taut script.
..that had made the movie a classic, .... well all credits should go to Jean-Luc Godard eventually....how easily he had crafted the confusions of love,ego n ambitions in this film...& thats the main theme of the movie.
...the 1st part in the street between the couple is wonderful,the middle part which is the best part of the film....an around 45 minute conversation in the apartment between belmondo n seberg....brilliantly underlines the confusion in the girl's mind n heart & their troubled & fragile relationship.
..she is suffering...she wants to confirm that he loves her.....but we all see wat is shown in front of us....her mind fluctuates in proportion to belmondos action whose perfect characterisation by godard lends another dimension to this movie.
..belmondo is also astounding...the last part where he plans to escape with the money,we see how easily a person changes,bcz of the confusion....the uncertainty...when seberg after much hesitation ultimately brings the downfall of belmondo.
..and watch out for the ending scene....the confusion is most blatant in the last words of the last scene.....watch out for the music...its unforgettable...
