Review of Breathless (1983) by Dylan N — 07 Nov 2008
This is what Paris, as a symbol, is about: The romance, the style and the crime. Yet this is all irrelevant because the protagonist, Michel, draws all attention away from the storyline with his charisma.
We should hate him, but we don't. He is an existentialist through and through, making this film the child of the whole French new wave movement. Jean-Luc Godard really did "become immortal, and then die" with this film.
