Review of Breathless (1983) by Saurabh L — 03 May 2012
The amazing Jean-Luc Godard's feature film debut. It's completely groundbreaking and is one of the few films which mark the rebirth of cinema. Look at most films from the 1950s, and then look at many films after this one, and you will see the clear difference that movies like this made.
It is the story of Michel (Jean-Paul Belmondo), a young car thief, who after being forced to shoot a policeman, needs to leave Paris. He spends much of the film struggling to persuade Patricia (Jean Seberg), an American girlfriend to go with him.
It's subtle and sensual, and is one of the most influnetial films of the French New Wave. A really wonderful masterpiece, with a fresh charm that makes it just so much fun to watch.
