Review of Breathless (1960) by Tomek S — 21 Aug 2010
Although I am not generally a Jean-Luc Godard fan - I am a fan of what he represents. And what he represents is a great tradition of rule breaking.
Having said that - I actually do like this movie. I learned that it is a little hard to watch because it breaks a lot of narrative traditions that make it easier for laymen viewers to to get through the movie. That isn't really the fault of the movies though - I think its the problem of the modern audience.
The cinematography in here is pretty good and they give the actors a lot of room to explore which is really good. Despite what little narrative there is, you still kind of understand that quirkiness and the seriousness and how they interact.
If you're not to stuck up to see a really stereotypical French new wave film then go see that shit.
