Review of Breaking the Waves (2014) by Chris Y — 22 Oct 2007
The whole film mentally tortured me and left me with deep pains - it is so real that most people couldn't understand the way Emily apporaches to save her husband; meanwhile the explicit sex scenes really bothered me. People have two kinds of extreme voices responding to this film - Emily is a slut; emily is a saint - the story is such a representative for the arguments of moral standards nowadays.
Apart from the controversies the story raised, the whole dogma95-style is used sophisticatedly. With the great actings, we could've seen more spellbinders rather than moralities in this typical Lars movie.
