Review of Breaking the Waves (2014) by Lynda M — 11 Jan 2010
I will defend many of Lars von Trier's films until the day I die but Breaking the Waves represents all of his very worst qualities. It's far too long and has a philosophy at the center of it that is absurd at best and hateful at worst.
Yes, the performances are all extraordinary and there are a few scenes that did resonate emotionally, but all in all I consider this his most overrated and possibly even his worst film to date.
