Review of Breaking the Waves (2014) by Will D — 25 Mar 2011
Soul-destroyingly brutal and intense. Lars Von Trier has a fetish for showing the weak and vulnerable collapse under their horrible circumstances... but there's a lot of humour throughout the film too, not least in the choice of music.
'Life On Mars' starts playing at a very appropriate moment. This is surely one of the greatest and most overlooked films of the nineties.
