Review of Breaking Away (1979) by Christopher S — 25 Nov 2008
What easily could have been yet another coming of age/inspirational sports movie actually works, due to strong characters and a smart, genuine script. It is dated, and pretty cheesy at times - a somewhat cliched plot drives things toward "the big race", but when it actually gets there, it's unquestionably exciting.
Great performances and rich, believable characters makes this a superior entry to a typically abysmal genre.
