Review of Breaking and Entering (2006) by Gabrielle J — 07 Oct 2007
Jude Law is annoyingly too good looking at times. He's the same in every movie: can get away with anything he likes by being charming and cuddly. But beyond that -- he was actually very good in the film and fit well within director Anthony Minghella's big lush way of telling stories.
Minghella delves deep to look at human frailties and complexities, I admire this. He also presents us with attractive, elegant cinematography. The title seems like an obvious but clever play on words: "breaking and re-entering a relationship", or "breaking, in order to make something enter-able".
The beginning is slow and has stilted dialogue, but given a chance, it flowers into a compelling story. Interesting look at one of the poorer neighbourhoods in London called Kings Cross. Has a very elegant musical score.
