Review of Breaking and Entering (2006) by Paul C — 05 Jul 2008
Good adult drama from Anthony Minghella, with suitably impressive performances from the cast, hell even Jude Law does a good job. This is a deliberately slow paced and understated film, that slowly crawls its way under the skin and becomes very involving.
It Provides some interesting thoughts on how things need to be well broken before healing and fixing can take place. Although considering the film tries to nail home that it is set in a rough and undesirable location in London, the cinematography makes the area look like its off a postcard, could it have been so difficult for Minghella to shoot it to give it a grimy look, one which the film states the area is.
Full of relationship troubles, depression and longing love, this could have been very heavy material, but it never strays down the 'cut my wrists now' path. While some may call it dull and boring, I call it mellow and engaging.
See it if you like Closer and other relationship dramas.
