Review of Breakin' (1984) by Johnny L — 11 Apr 2013
An interesting movie for it's time. Breakin' is certainly dated, what with it's fashions and the relentless "rap" music, but it does have some heart, and it's quite fun too. Lucinda Dickey plays a dancer trying to make it, when she discovers that weird dance all the black kids are doing.
Her dance instructor and her agent are skeptical, but she follows her heart and enters the big big dance competion. It's a bit much after awhile, but again, it's fun. Plenty of "What are YOU doing here" moments from Christopher McDonald, Ice T and, yes, Jean-Claude Van Damme.
