Review of Breakfast on Pluto (2005) by Tracey O — 04 Sep 2007
There is no doubt, the more I see of Cillian Murphy, the more impressed I am becoming with him as an actor, an artist and a performer.
I was intrigued by this film for a while now, but never even noticed that not only is Mr. Murphy in it, but it also features Liam Neeson and Stephen Rea, not to mention it was directed by the great Neil Jordon, who brought us one of the 90's highpoints of cinema, "The Crying Game.".
Having become a fan of Cillian's due to "28 days Later," "Red Eye" and "Sunshine," one of this year's best thus far, I was not shocked that his performance as a man trapped in a woman's body was astounding, but the his choice to take on such a role garners him great respect.
However, the very quirky and odd story of how he went from abandoned baby to full-grown "woman," although interesting, proved to be a little tedious to watch at times. Very well written, acted and directed, the film just lacked a bit of punch and timing and thus ends up being good rather than great.
