Review of Breakfast on Pluto (2005) by Brock R — 27 Jun 2008
Never as subversive as it wants to be, it plays more like transgression-lite. The director decides to never cross the line overtly, merely allowing emotional dissonance. On the whole this works to good effect, but the failure of the director, or the cast, (except for the excellent Cillian Murphy, from whom you get the sense would go as far as would be allowed) to fully commit leave a movie that is hard to connect with, not due to its content, but its hollow pantomime.
