Review of Breakfast on Pluto (2005) by David S — 21 Sep 2008
Cillian Murphy shows his talent and pulls off the role of Patrick "Kitten" Braden. A young Irish man that learns early on that the he is more comfortable as a woman and thus becomes a transgender. Eventually he flees Ireland in the 70s to locate his real mother in London, but Patricks paths are not easygoing and not straightforward in a time when IRA is coming on strong. And on the road he manages to become a band member, a magicians assistant, a prostitute and a peepshow dancer. "Breakfast on Pluto" is a story about finding yourself and understand who is your family and friends.
This is well done, in terms of acting, casting, cinemaphotography and direction. Then again I would not expect anything less from Neil Jordan. And as said Cillian Murphy pulls out his ace to alight Patrick "Kitten" Braden.
