Review of Breakfast on Pluto (2005) by Stella D — 12 Jan 2010
Neil Jordan is a truly gifted and original filmmaker. He's had several decent films, (In Dreams, Interview With the Vampire, Crying Game, The Brave One) and a few great ones. (This, The Butcher Boy, and The End of the Affair) I think it must be no coincidence that two of the ones he knocked out of the park are pseudo-biographies about some of the most absurd people in cinematic history.
The focus of this film is on Patrick "Kitten" Brady, a soul-searching transvestite played by Cillian Murphy. (who now has my respect forever) Jordan has a way of making this ridiculousness seem epic.
The structure, pacing, look, and feel of this film are absolutely delightful. It's truly something to behold, and has me psyched for the upcoming Ondine with Colin Farrell.
