A wistful harmonica cues a sunset on a quiet street; a bon vivant's lonely reflection in the window of a jewelry store eats breakfast from a paper bag before sauntering home to a cat. The film is littered with visual flourishes, some more subtle than others, that cinematically evoke Truman Capote's romantic and touchingly personal story of a mercurial soul trapped in a cage of its own making.

It's clunky in parts, but playful clumsiness eventually gives way to poignant observation that leaves a lasting impression and defines the movie.
