Review of Breakfast at Tiffany's (1961) by Carol M — 04 Feb 2014
Overrated, disappointing classic with the wasted star power of Hepburn and Peppard, both so contrived with Hep's acting unconvincing and Peppard distant as is he's showing up for his paycheck only.
This flick is asking us to swallow way to much even by 1961 standards. Of course in the real world, then and now, both our lead characters would be prostitutes, which is hardly reflected in their comfortable "Upper East Side Existence".
Although we get the warm and fuzzy ending we expect from a rom/com, the chemistry between Hepburn & Peppard is stale & lackluster at best. But it's the cringeworthy, redundant, racist character played by Mickey Rooney that leaves you dumbfounded as to why this offensive, humorless character is even in this movie.
Even though I wasn't born when BAT was released, I probably could have lived the rest of my life without it.
