Review of Breakfast at Tiffany's (1961) by Curtis R — 20 Aug 2010
Audrey Hepburn was a big star before she made "Breakfast at Tiffany's"but after the film opened she became a cultural icon & started a fashion revolution with the wardrobe she wore in the film.
She stars as Holly Golightly, a social climbing escort who dreams of a better life and loves the department store Tiffany's. George Peppard plays her new neighbor Paul Varjak who is a writer and becomes fascinated with the beautiful free spirited Holly, ultimately falling in love with her.
What he doesn't realize is that she never really shares her true persona with him and only when tragedy strikes does he realize that the real her is emotionally fragile and the extroverted Holly Golightly persona is a defensive wall she has built around her to protect herself.
Once Holly realizes that Paul does truly love her and is not just another man who wants her as his own personal property is she finally able to open her heart to him. A truly great classic film that holds up and remains fresh after fifty years.
