Review of Breakdown (1997) by Greg Z — 17 Aug 2010
I almost soiled myself watching this thriller. Outstandingly good. Much like "Duel" except with a married couple driving and more than a trucker harrassing drivers. Will keep you riveted to the tv when you give this 10 minutes of your time.
Make no mistake about it, BREAKDOWN is the best movie Kurt Russell ever made.
Despite the obvious Russell who is more family man in this film than a fighter, he rises, finally to the occasion and fights back. Against all odds, he gets his wife back from a bunch of losers who pounce on unsuspecting well off tourists in the desolate southwest. Moral of the story is drive old clunkers and wear crappy clothes.
Again, the local police are useless in time of need.... indeed, the victum becomes more harrassed than the kidnappers of his wife.
Although all maybe a little too formula in its plot, this film is worth more than one watch. Just like the movie Duel by Speilberg, I intend to watch this one again and again for sure. I may buy it. A thrilla from Manilla, as they used to say.
Two eyeballs wide open! Holy Crap!
