Review of Breakdown (1997) by Dan H — 26 Jan 2013
You think people would know by now, YOU DO NOT FUCK WITH KURT RUSSEL. He's tangled with aliens, insane convicts, super-powered supernatural Chinese Gods and now...... stupid rednecks. The film starts out cleverly disguised as a paranoia fueled thriller but fairly quickly does away with all that nonsense (40 minutes into the film) to become your average thriller.
I do appreciate that the film adds a layer to the main baddie by revealing he is a father and husband. The ONLY reason to see this film is for Kurt Russel, who plays a white-collar married man on the edge who is on a desperate search for his missing wife who he lost after his car breaks down.
He is a bad-ass here (really though, when isn't he?) and it's his rage-fueled performance that makes this film fun. I suppose it's worth a viewing on a lazy Sunday, but don't expect anything all that great.
