Review of Break Ke Baad (2010) by Imran K — 26 Nov 2010
This is an interesting take on relationships that seem to go a bit off track after going well for a long time. One of the partners (in this case the girl) suddenly, out of the blue, decides that what they want is not what the relationship has to offer and so want a "break".
This movie shows, in a very effective way, how the 2 people come to terms with the new arrangement and the trials and traumas that go with it.
Needless to say, Danish Aslam is no Alfred Hitchcock and thus the movie has a very predictable ending.
Deepika Padukone really delivers in this one, a very natural and effortless performance. Not quite at the level of Kareena Kapoor in Jab We Met, but very memorable nonetheless. She is definitely improving with every movie.
Imran Khan, on the other hand, somehow doesn't fit. There is something about him that doesn't gell, I think its his diction. Too perfect to be a 20 soemthing guy from Delhi. Not sure how long he can hang on to Aamir Khan's shirttails, he really needs to rework his look to make a mark for himself, or quickly try his luck behind the camera.
The story moves along at a good pace and being a 2 hr movie the length isn't really a problem to begin with. The music is average, the background score is very good (take a bow Hitesh Sonik, a great musician and a true gentleman).
I would recommend this one to you, but be prepared for some introspection as well, its not your run of the mill rom-com.
