Review of Bread and Tulips (2000) by Will G — 05 Oct 2007
This film has a lot going for it. It manages that tricky balance of quirky-comedic-dramatic pretty well. The central figure is interesting and attractive. The plot keeps you guessing. And it's mostly set in Venice.
Not bad, eh? However, as great as the story sets out to be, and as wonderful and memorable as some of the scenes are, the moral of the story is basically, "If you don't like your life, dump everything and everybody and move somewhere else.
" Also a great example of dream sequences that don't work. But there is a funny scene with a fat guy in a trench coat and dark glasses. Oh, did I mention that this film is already going to be remade as an American film? Ahh brutha!
