Review of Breach (2007) by Colin H — 10 Aug 2008
The word I would use to describe this movie is interesting. It's not your typical cat-and-mouse movie, rather it looks at the characters and how the situation affects all of them. Chris Cooper truly brings his character to life. It is known from the beginning that he is guilty, but the writing and acting leave the viewer wondering, did he, or did he not? It's a refreshing spin on a story such as this.
There is also a degree of intensity, as we wonder how long Eric O'Neill will last against the wits of this man who has evaded detection for almost three decades. That was the one thing about the movie that turned me off a bit... since Hanssen was in fact guilty the whole time, how was he fooled into trusting O'Neill? Other than that aspect of it, I did enjoy the movie quite a bit. Check it out if you're a fan of Chris Cooper, he's as good as ever.
