Review of Braveheart (1995) by Grant S — 06 Mar 2014
A fantastic portrayal of courage and freedom. Braveheart is an emotionally satisfying journey with well edited epic battle sequences, an inspirational story, and great acting all around. This film is one of the best of its genre in my opinion because it has about everything that makes movies great and it is well directed and memorable.
Mel Gibson does an incredible job directing and acting here. His character is a character you care and root for the entire well paced 3 hour movie. James Horner's score is one of this film's greatest strengths and it succeeds at making scenes emotional and entralling to watch.
John Toll's cinematography is outstanding here and you get fantastic shots of Ireland and Scotland. I don't care that the film may have historical inaccuracies, when I watch a film, I don't ask for a history lesson, I just ask to be entertained about what is going on and to give me characters that I will care for.
This in my opinion ends up being a movie that lives up to all its hype and Best Picture win because you can tell that the filmmakers put their best effort into making this wonderful picture.
