Review of Braveheart (1995) by Liam C — 26 Jun 2014

Wow, this really does have 'Best Picture' pasted all over it. Everything from the musical score to the sweeping landscapes right down the motivational speeches, Braveheart has it all. Mel Gibson really did a good job here and pays tribute to the lives lost in the revolt, even if it is apparently sometimes off with the history but I won't comment on that as I do not know enough about it.

All I know is that a film that is three hours long justifies it's running time with exhilarating action, a great plot to get attached to, a powerful heartbreaking theme and some fine acting where it shows that every actor really gave it their all to make something memorable.

The action here is quite the spectacle, rewardingly bloody and just remarkable to look at how everything was staged, it's quite incredible. I guess these epics that go on to win Oscars like to use music that has bagpipes in it as the music to me was reminiscent of Titanic and I know that came out two years after this but Horner must have realized that it worked so well so he used it again when he did Titanic but it really fits for some reason and gives everything a great sense of power when it's used, even more so than what's already being shown.

Again, it's another one of those films where there really isn't anything but praise to give it so a review just lavishing praise unto it isn't really going to be anything interesting that anyone would want to read.

Fantastic film that sweeps you away with it and gets you thoroughly involved, right up until its heartbreaking finale. FREEDOM!
