Review of Brave (2012) by Nathaniel B — 25 Jun 2013
Empty, silly, daft, and pointless are all words that come to mind when the credits roll after Brave. The visuals, something Pixar is generally pretty good at, are tacky and fake-looking. The characters are pathetic and unsympathetic, especially those three little shits that were the triplets.
They may be the worst characters I've ever seen in a movie, especially because they were utterly useless except for when they were actively being little shits. Merida, one of Pixar's first real heroines, should be much more intelligent than she is, as she bumbles and fumbles her way through a lackluster adventure involving overly complex and mystical witchcraft and pitifully needless bears.
Truly, this is one of the worst Pixar movies I have ever seen, and possibly one of the worst animated films I have ever seen. Pixar, if you're going to copy the setting of How To Train Your Dragon, at least try to make it as good of a movie.
In addition, it is an absolute cock up that this drivel won the Oscar and numerous other awards over the genius piece of animated filmmaking that is Wreck-It Ralph, which has a strong, intelligent message, excellently done settings, a strong voice cast, beautiful visuals, and likable and/or understandable characters, traits which Brave is devoid of.
What a waste of time and space on the shelves of Pixar history.
