Review of Brave (2012) by Joshua B — 27 Jun 2013
Merida (Kelly McDonald) is a Scottish princess who is disgusted with her clan's tradition about royal betrothal. She seeks a magical means of swaying the opinion of her obstinate mother (Emma Thompson), but things go typically askew.
The fate of the kingdom, and of Merida's destiny, rests in her ability to heal the strained bond between herself and her family. Brave is a charming, chipper, and likable fantasy film that has subtle layers under its veneer of action and slapstick.
It doesn't reinvent the storytelling wheel, but it's still a well-made and valuable addition to the nonpareil catalog of Pixar.
