Definitely not what I expected, but not hugely disappointing either. Merida is the first truly spirited, individualistic Princess that Disney has created. She is not picture perfect (and it does not phase her at all), she does not need a man to save or validate her, and she chooses her own path in life.
She makes mistakes that has disastrous consequences, but she cleans up her mess in the end by using her courage and her wit. Worth seeing.
