Review of Branded to Kill (1967) by Sabrina I — 24 May 2011
Is there a plot in this film? Probably. This is purely an exercise in absurdity and style. Stylish absurdity if you will. Butterflies haunt our man, from ruining his shot, to being in a room full of them, on his knees, throwing them over his back for some reason, to where the film strip itself attacks him with white cut-out images of butterflies.
Why? I don't know and I don't care. Who is Number One, indeed. Number One Killer really fucks with you before he kills you, so elaborate. I think if you watched this film in reverse it wouldn't matter all that much.
