Review of Branded to Kill (1967) by Marco F — 11 Jul 2010
The butterfly alighting on the muzzle is exegesis-till-your-blue-in-the-face fun, and the scent of rice and seat-of-the-poorly-tailored pants structure are whatever the Japanese word for groovy is. It's a film most will tell you to rewatch, but it's a labour of obsessive love to champion Suzuki's tongue-in-fat-cheek Yakuza gangster pic's rather lazy deconstruction.
Watch it drunk or high, dig those butterflies.
