Review of Branded (2013) by Jett M — 09 Sep 2012
I find it ironic that the biggest problem with this movie is the way it was advertised. This is a fantastic, cerebral, avant-garde film about the dominance of advertising and marketing in our lives. It is not "a dark and mind-bending journey into a surreal, dystopian society", except to the extent that our modern day world may be considered dystopian.
The other thing that will throw many viewers is that the film is constantly shifting around stylistically. The mood goes from hot to cold and back again, which a lot of people will not have the patience for.
That said, there is so much good about this film and I highly recommend it. A very solid 4 stars in my book, and would easily have been 5 if the story was structured differently.
