Ben Stiller perfectly plays a middle-aged man who's reached the tipping point of his existence.

A father seeing his son go off to college re-examines everything that has happened to him; he questions his life choices, where he'll go from there, and wonders if he actually did anything right.

A few people from his past played by Luke Wilson and Michael Sheen make him feel like he's always been in competition with their accomplishments.

Maybe the problem is himself believing he has to compete with others, prove himself to them, or suddenly has become a walking cliché.

The world wasn't made for him, the best thing he's ever done is his son and the life he's given him.

He has enough, he just doesn't know it immediately.

Heck this even plays off of the actor himself in real-life and it's totally relatable.

We just have to remember we're still here, we're still alive to make the most of what's left.

A better ending and a more proper wrap up of character arcs would have gone a long way, still this is one of Stiller's finest performances I must say.
