Man, this is not one of those movies you sit down to watch for a good time.
This is a film that paints a vivid, colorful, and violent picture of life in the hood.
The casting is great, and it is not sugarcoated at all.
The layering of life in the hood, Sykes trying to be that shining ray of hope, under the gentrification just tells one story.
Also, the want to get out through grades, talent, or dying.
This is a depressing but eye opening film. Completely goes against the main ideology of American cinema, and I wish we could get more films like it.
