Review of Boyz n the Hood (1991) by Ian W — 01 Aug 2011
My entire life I have heard references to this film and finally decided to see what all of the fuss was about via Netflix. Honestly, I was very underwhelmed. The music tries to pressure you to feel a certain way, like very sad piano music when Cuba and his father have a heart to heart moment.
It was a cheesy, public service announcement take on what the African-America struggle is like in America. Then at the end of the film they had all of this awesome rap music in the credits, where the hell was that music throughout the film score? I think I am going to use Friday as my reference film for black America, way cooler that way.
