Review of Boyz n the Hood (1991) by Samantha S — 18 Aug 2014
Finally watched this last weekend. It says something about the quality of writing in a film when you can accurately predict the major plot points and yet they still affect you in a surprisingly poignant way.
The depth and skillful structure of this film's narrative set it apart from any other slice-of-life drama, urban or otherwise, I have seen. This movie belongs in the American culture anthology next to Harper Lee's To Kill A Mockingbird and Casablanca.
If you haven't seen Boyz n the Hood yet, you're doing yourself a disservice!
