Review of Boyz n the Hood (1991) by Beniamin M — 20 Jul 2016
Am I the only one to realise that the story has no sense? I mean, mean protagonist and his closest family and friend have no real reason to stay in the hood. Come on, he has a job, he's good at studying, he has a mother who has a degree and pretty nice apartament... the list is pretty long. Everybody in this movie says how hard and dangerous is to live in this district, yet noone seems to look for a way out, except for Ricky.... who is so stupid that he scratches lottery tickets when some guys are trying to do drive by on him... really? The speech that Furious gives at bilboard is basically saying "Yes, we live in a shitty place, but we wont try to leave it, cause its our shitty place. And besides, its not our fault, it's the white people fault.".
Tre's mother says that she is trying to protect him so much, yet she never really does anything that would proove it. Hell, she even meets Furious in a restaurant that is clearly placed in "white" part of city....
I could go on and on. Simply its an "OK" movie, but story is really bad if you think abut it for a minute...
