Review of Boyz n the Hood (1991) by Joel A — 04 Jun 2010
What a film this is!!! Such a real, honest hard biting portrayal of street life. To me the standout of the film is it's realism, John Singleton obviously went through so much of what happens.
All the acting is so powerful and so natural, you truly believe they are part of this awful, horrible decaying lifestyle. Cuba and Larry are fantastic as the leads of the film, they really drive the film forward.
I guess this film is extraordinary as it is because it really shows the horror of not just south central LA, but the horrors of those uneducated, simple minded violent societies that aren't just in america they are all over the world. Makes you so grateful to live where you do, make you see how limited they are physical and mentally....and really opens your eyes to as sad as it is...the real world....
