Review of Boyz n the Hood (1991) by Derek S — 28 Jun 2010
A good film, though kind of predictable at times. However, this isn't a problem Boyz n' the Hood caused...it's just the result of many similar films that this one spawned. For example, once Ricky (Morris Chestnut) receives the SAT scores in the mail, I knew two things would be revealed: 1.) Something bad was immediately going to happen to him or another character. 2.) the scores were high enough for him to get maticulated into college (especially if something bad had just happened to him, as the cliche' goes).
Nonetheless, this is still a good movie with great performances by its actors, especially Lawrence Fishburne, though Cuba Gooding Jr. and Ice Cube are good, too.
