Herbert Ross loves his chick pics. Infact he's the James Cameron of Weepy Femme Melodramas. After the dross of Steel Magnolias he did this and he covers 'edgier' territory with Whoopi's lesbian, Parker's Suzie Home Maker AIDS victim and Barrymore's Abused Heart Of Gold Urban White Trash schtick.
The over bearing score and all female bursting soundtrack are as polarising as the liberal overuse of swearing (yep this was one of the first major US studio pics to feature the word c*nt in wide release).
BUt for all its jarringly awful choices perfs are good, except Matthew McConaughey's doe eyed idiot . See it and cry - everyone else did - and you see that coming a mile off too!
