Review of Boys Don't Cry (1999) by Josh C — 18 Apr 2009
This is one of those films that is not enjoyable to watch because it is a cring-enducing exploit into America's own bigotry and bias. Like Brokeback Mountain these two films demonstrate the hardships that still face the LGBT community.
This particular film focuses on Brandon Teena (Hilary Swank) who is born a female but identifies herself as a man and hopes to afford a sex-change opperation at somepoint. The confused character is also stuck in Kansas; not exactly the most understanding of places for a sexually confused person.
This film is desturbing but is an important one to watch.
