Review of Boys and Girls (2000) by Neil W — 20 Oct 2007
A movie that has a special place in my heart. The first time I saw it with my mate Gav I absolutely hated it. What utter schlock. Written by "The Drews", I mean what the hell is that!? Then it became this running joke how much I hated so he would force me to watch it again and again. Eventually I grew to like it, then love it, and now i'm back to merely liking it again.
The fist half hour of the movie is fairly rubbish. You have an amazing 4 flash forwards, it's bloody ridiculous. When we finally get to the "present" timeline the movie pikcs up and gets good quickly.
Freddie Prinze is pretty good, but not at his best, Forlani is fairly annoying, but Biggs is great as Hunter/Steve and a lot of the dialogue and scenes are great. One in particular, a syncronised dance routine, including foam, goes down awesomely well.
It's hard for me to actually recommend this to anyone as most of my love for it is really nostalgia and just personal. But if you like generic teen movies, particularly the less than stellar ones involving Prinze (Summer Catch comes to mind) then get this out, and semi-enjoy it :D.
