Review of Boyhood (2014) by Sv G — 01 Mar 2015
I recommend trying to wait until you have the nearly 3 hrs to just sit and watch it as it was meant to be seen and unfold. Loved watching the characters grow up and develop over the 12 years it took them to make this.
It was Linklater... enormous gigantic message in subtle nearly sedate storytelling, and maybe just short of brilliant. The characters were great.. they were real and identifiable. I am very happy I watched this at pushing 60; so I could honestly smile and nod my head knowingly.
All of it is beautiful.. 'it' being life. When his mother cries as he goes off to college and laments her life is all down hill now (as I did) It was good to sit near 20 years beyond that and laugh out loud, knowing there's more.
. SO much more. The movie is more observational than preachy.. well written, well directed..(Linklater did both) IS for everyone, but sadly not everyone will like it. That's okay too. Made me happy in the end to have watched it.
.the older you are I believe the more you will appreciate.. which in its way is what the movie is about. Ethan Hawke was a joy to watch in this.
