Review of Boyhood (1951) by Jason W — 10 Oct 2018
Linklater's colossal project is one to be admired. Everything about this film feels real and personal. The beauty of Boyhood is that as the actors grow up in line with their characters, giving a truly wonderful, honest portrayal of childhood, adulthood and everything in between.
There are certain aspects that might not appeal to everyone, giving its length and seemingly slow pace and lack of plot, however I feel the latter is more or less justified giving that Linklater's primary focus is to represent growing up as a whole, and I think he's managed that perfectly.
Linklater knows that life has no plot, it just happens, and Boyhood is his brilliant representation of a family in the span of several years, managing to capture the entirety of childhood in some seamless motion picture.
